A reminder for those who have websites

When you get an email from your domain provider informing you of an Invoice for renewal, it doesn’t mean it’s a bill and they automatically charged your credit card.

You should log in and pay it right away or else on the morning that your domain expires, your website and email will cease to exist.

Fortuneately, netfirms automagically phoned me yesterday morning, which is a miracle because I rarely use my cellphone when I register for things as such. At first I assumed it was a telemarketer and was just about to hang up when I heard “domain” and decided to re-listen. “Paul” (the robot’s name I learned) informed me that I had not paid, so I quickly logged in to pay my bill for all my domains, which all expire around the same time.

Additionally, if and when this happens, make sure that your DNS servers weren’t reset. In the case of netfirms, they relocate you to a “you forgot to pay your bill” page to remind you, but once you pay your bill they don’t set it back. 24 hours later after discovering my domain hand’t reverted to my website, I called them up and they informed me I had to re-enter them.

All is now right in the world, so this is just a public service announcement…
